Pomponio State Beach, California

It was a beautiful Summer’s day at the beach in Northern California, late July.

If you are looking for a beach that isn’t quite as popular as the ones that are closer to San Francisco, travel South of Half Moon Bay a few miles – there are some small, characterful beaches that may suit your need for quiet. A nap on the sand can be perfect.

“What are the effects on the American idea of Guantánamo, Abu Ghraib, PATRIOT Acts I and II, warrantless surveillance…”

A thoughtful piece, published nearly three years ago, by David Foster Wallace.

A lot has happened since then, but I am more concerned about what has not happened.

Bruce Schneier, the rationalist about security, posted a link to the article a couple of days ago on his blog. The comments are lively, opinionated, intelligent, and morose.

Not that it went away. One blogger is making new images from the details of the old: 4CP|Four Color Process- Adventures Deep Inside the Comic Book.

By the way, if you are looking for an easy to use and lightweight blogging platform, Posterous is pretty slick.

I don’t really need one, but KALW is offering a 2 GB thumb drive loaded with This American Life episodes to anyone donating 120 bucks. Pretty cool idea.

They have been playing some amusing Alec Baldwin promo spots too.

A humorless person? Not the way I see myself. But my bookmarking history would suggest that I have little interest in making sure I have a good laugh at hand – I have exactly three bookmarks tagged “humor” in my delicious.com account. Exactly the same number tagged “dataretention” which has to be the most humorless of all my tags. Well, I have one link that is tagged “diet.” Two “disasters.”

Of course it isn’t like tags are used singly, one of those disasters might be tagged humor as well.
